You do not hear or read much about how many portable computers are stolen each year, but it is a considerable number. Laptops are a great target because they offer potentially double payoff for thieves. It may be surprising to most but the number spot that computers disappear is people offices. These account for approximately 40% of laptops stolen. The sobering statistics from the FBI is that only 3% of those stole are ever recuperated. Computers are an easy target for thieves because when we are in crowded places, such as airports, we need to be distracted for only a moment for it to disappear. However, we need to also be attentive to our computers and take precautionary measures not o entice thieves to take it. Paying attention to where our computer is at all times, including not leaving it unattended or lay it on the floor were it an easy target. Not carrying in a computer bag, instead in another piece of luggage that does not give away you have a computer. There are may simple steps on can take to secure our computers. Remember it no so much about losing a computer, but since we have become so dependent on them, it's the information they contain.
